Kayl's new desk

Kayl wanted a desk in her room to do homework on, and we found one that fit, that we liked and that we could afford - it just had to be assembled. Kayl asked if she could do the assembly. We agreed, as long as dad could supervise (and assist as necessary...)

It all started with the top, and making sure it would fit where she wanted it to go.

Oddly enough, the instructions had her assemble the pull-out work shelf next...

...and then put it aside for later.

Now came the tricky part - assembling the body of the desk.  This required ready the instructions a couple of times.

First, there were these dowels to hammer into various places.

Re-checking the instructions, just to make sure!

Now attaching sides to base...

...and the second side goes on.

Kayl learns a little trick - using cardboard to soften the blows of the hammer and prevent maring the surface.

Next, lining up the back bracing...

...and getting it all secured together.

It's starting to look like a box, anyway!

Kayl got to work on her screwdriver skills.

A lot!

Then came putting on the backing...

...and she got some hammer practice...

...on tiny nails...

...a whole lot of them!!

Next to last step: putting in the shelf supports...

...and then installing the shelf.

And lastly?  Putting in that pull-out shelf she built way back at the beginning!!

Caught her right in the middle of a 'happy clap' just after she reviewed the instructions and made sure she had done everything.

Ta-Da!  This is my new desk!!

jammy morning

The kids had a 'sleep=over' on the living room floor last night.

It made for a slow, jammy-wearing morning...

Girl Scout Cookie Kickoff!

Kayl went to the unit's Cookie Kickoff! There they got to learn about the different cookies...

...try them all and see how they taste...

...learn a few sales pitches...

...and vote for their favorite coolies.

All the girls from Kayl's troop that went had a great time!

selling cookies to the Lions

Kayl got a little 'jump start' on cookie sales by asking our Lions club if they would again support her efforts and buy cookies. She gave them her 'sales pitch', and let them know where her order page was online to make 'promises'

She was pretty impressive this year, doing all of the talking herself! (Previous years, mommy has had to help out some or a lot...)

letterboxing at Moulton Falls & Lucia Falls

On a rare day with Mary home and the kids in school, we snuck off to do a little letterboxing and visit a couple of local falls we had been wanting to see now for a while. The weather cooperated, and the views were spectacular!
