Invention Presentation - EZ Open

One of the projects for Kayl this school year was to make an invention.  It had to be something that would solve a problem she had, and then they had to attempt to make it and come up with a presentation about the invention for the class.  Kayl made the "EZ Open", a little device to open water bottles and glue bottles - since she has trouble breaking the seal on those.  Below is a series of pictures of her presentation:

...one of which was to demonstrate it again.

I love the way she tugs her braid while answering the teacher's questions!

teaching at Girl Scout Camp

At that leader-daughter camp that Kayl and Mary attended, Robb got asked to teach the girls about letterboxing.

There were a couple of mother/daughter groups there who had already been letterboxing, but they made nice 'shills' - asking all the right questions to answer!

Some of the girls figured it out quite quickly, and really had a good time with the carving and making logbooks.

Kayl even got in some carving time!

The night before, Sean, Robb and one of the Girls Scout Leaders went out into the woods and planted a series of Girl Scout Cookies Robb had carved.  The next day, the girls got to hunt them.

Do you think planting it under this moss would be a good idea?

Leader-Daughter Camp

Kayl & Mary went to a Girl Scouts "Leader-Daughter" weekend - a campout for those leaders and their daughters in the service unit.  One of the things Kayl worked on was knitting.

They got to do some hiking as well...

...although they didn't always know the way!

There was plenty of 'goofing' time in the cabin...

...and lots of other games...

...as well as a little singing!

One of the events was an obstacle course challenge between the leaders and their daughters.  Kayl & Mary started out about even in the jump-rope...

...and Kayl pulled ahead a little in the ball toss...

...so that by the time the got to the balance bean, Kayl had a commanding lead!

Mary started to make a 'come-back' when they got to the hula hoops...

...and had nearly caught Kayl by the jumping jacks...

..but fell behind again in the bear crawl!

Kayl's soccer skills came into play to keep her lead...

...so that by the time she was doing the tennis bounce, Mary was no where to be seen!

The dorm - it was pretty nice.

Sometimes it's fun to just do stuff with mom!

The cabin had a nice, big covered porch.

Hanging out with friends is good too!

But no one is as fun as mom!!

Girls Scouts Court of Awards

Twice a year the girls have a 'Court of Awards' to give out any badges and patches they have earned, and this one doubled as a birthday party for the organization as well.  First, the troop leaders have to get organized...

This is the cake they had - 99 years so far!

We got a picture of the troop before they got started.

Here the girls are walking in behind the flag...

...and getting set up for the ceremony.

Things start with the flag salute...

...and everyone says the Pledge of Allegiance.

Next comes the Girl Scout Pledge...

...and a reading of the Girl Scout Law.

Then the girls all got lined up for the awards.

Kayl got a surprise - she had won an award at the Girl Scout Powder Puff (pinewood) Derby for "Best Christmas Spirit"!

That's the second year in a row her car has won a design award.
