holiday social

Kayl's Girl Scout Troop had a Christmas party.  They watched movies and did crafts.

They also goofed around a lot!

Here they are making ornaments.

Such a serious look!

And not everyone was happy...

...but still they worked on the ornaments and had a great time.

They filled the ornaments with 'snow' - made from plastic...

...which made Robin very happy!

They also made some candles - they smelled really sweet.

Afterwards they watched "The Game Plan".

Each girl got to make a holiday 'scarf' - kind of a boa - by cutting the material that had been stitched together into fringes.

Girl Scouts Court of Awards

Every spring, the troop has a Court of Awards - to hand out badges and such - usually combined with some sort of ceremony for the girls who are moving up to the next level.  Here, the troop leader moms are setting up for the ceremony.

This is the 'bridge', and will be used for the girls 'bridging' up from Brownies to Juniors.

This is a rainbow of candles - since the theme for the celebration was a rainbow - and they each had a meaning that the girls read later in the celebration.

And, of course, setting up for the treats after the ceremony...

Some of the older Junior, who will be moving on to Cadets, helped with planning and setting up.

The ceremony began with the girls coming down through a 'rainbow' of streamers.

Next, was the Pledge of Allegiance...

...and the Girl Scout Pledge.

Here's the whole group.

Part of the Girl Scout Law, given with hand signs.

Gathering for the next part of the ceremony.

First, troop leader Teri mas some nice things to say about the other ladies who helped run the troop this year.

Then, the candles were lit along with their corresponding meanings.  Here, Kayl waits her turn...

Kayl lights the gold candle.

Here's the whole troop for a group pic.

Next came some gifts for the Juniors moving up to Cadets from the leaders...

...and recognition of those moving up to Cadets.

During the 'bridging' ceremony for the Brownies that will be Juniors next year, the remaining Juniors from this year who will be with them next year join them...

...and pin on their 'wings' for "flying up" to Juniors.

more wings

And then came gifts for those remaining Juniors.

Let the celebrations begin!!

A couple of songs...

...and some flowers to end the ceremony.

Then, it's off to the goodies!!

She has flowers in her hair...

Time for treats!

Girl Scout Service Unit 2 Camp

Kayl went to the Service Unit's camp.  It was a weekend long, and Mary went for the second day.

There was lots of arts & crafts to do...

...and lots of hiking fun to be had...

...with plenty of games to be played...

...even archery!

Kayl likes arts - and there was even more later.

The camp is in a wonderful wilderness area (but only a little over an hour away...).

And, of course, there was a camp fire...

...activities with friends...

...and skits...

...and S'MORES!!!!!!

Here's our happy camper with those from the troop who went.

Their fearless leaders...

So the next morning it was breakfast & cleanup...

...then a little 'monkey-business' while waiting to be picked up!
