yard sale

This spring, as our 25th anniversary approaches, we made a committment to get rid of 'stuff'. There were boxes in the basement that hadn't been opened for 3 moves - about 9 years! We had furniture and 'leavings' from all of the grandparents, and the garage was so full we couldn't get the kids' bikes out!! We had to purge!!!

After several months of 'digging' in the garage and basement, we had about 60 boxes of 'treasures' - and a bit of furniture and bigger items - sorted, priced, and ready to let go of...

Robb started out early setting up make-shift tables from sawhorses and plywood, as well as moving all the shelves out of the garage to put stuff on. This was the last picture Mary took.

We got busy really fast! We sold about 1/2 of the 'treasures' we put out, made a couple hundred dollars(!), and then donated the rest of the items to two good causes: the 'better' stuff we took up to our church for a rummage sale they are having as a benefit for a member fighting cancer; the rest went down to Goodwill. It was a long day, but the garage was empty, and we made enough of a 'dent' on the basement for it to be usable for guests (arriving in July).

Next we start again and get the rest of those boxes in the basement ready for a fall sale...
